The next piece is " I'll chose my own fate"
by Mark Titchner which has been placed in one of the large window on the side of the Walsall gallery. the piece which was part of an exhibition for ' Home of Metal' "a celebration of the music which was born in the black country and Birmingham" (1), was exhibited along side newly commissioned pieces as well as past works. As another artist whos work i was not familiar with i was instantly drawn to it as it is a bold piece that pulls you to it the moment you approach the gallery. as with the Fiona banner piece i was initially drawn to the typography but after I did some research on Mark Titchner i discovered,
"He is known for his text pieces which explore ideology and belief via the design and history of advertising, religious iconography, club fliers, trade union banners and political propaganda" (2) which are issues that interest me and are similar to ideas that i explore in my own work. It was due to this research and the visual imagery i came across that i decided to use him as an inspirational artist for my Second Life project instead of for my contextual review.
"The lyrics 'I'll choose my own fate' are taken from the song 'You don't have to be old to be wise' by the great Judas Priest." (3)
