Walsall gallery- Edgar Martins

The third piece I'm going to briefly discuss before sharing my chosen piece is, Edgar Martins " This is not a house"  which is a photo-essay collection commissioned by the New York Times Magazine to highlight the issues of  the collapse of the US housing market. I first saw an idea of what this piece of work could be when i went on the gallery website a few weeks before our trip to see what exhibitions where going to be on. I wasn't initial struck by it, not to the extent where i found myself studying the images and looking up the artist which is generally the case when something catches my eye. So i was surprised when i saw first hand the engaging simplicity and powerful imagery this collection brings forth.
The minimal use of lighting is almost haunting and the slightly unnerving situations you see in some of the photos remind me of the honesty of Andrew Zuckermans Wisdom collection.
(At this point i should mention that i am in no way a photographer so my reaction to this collection is most like not seen as the correct way of viewing photographic exhibition)
However even tho i found this collection to be fantastic and moving as well as having a grate back story, which i recorded and you will be able to listen to once i have sorted out permission and downloaded it,given by the curator. I do not feel i could do it justice and create a worthy contextual review.
