Bruce Nauman's Good Boy Bad Boy
Bruce Nauman’s performances, films and video works often use language games and repetition to explore the nature of language and perception. In this work two monitors are placed at head height, so that the performers stare out directly at the viewer. Two professional actors recite the same series of one hundred phrases, beginning in a flat tone but becoming more emotional. Because they are talking at different speeds, the actors fall out of step with each other, and the continuously looped videos become out of sequence. Many of the statements imply moral judgements which, through repetition, seem increasingly threatening.

Imogen Stidworthy
Imogen Stidworthy was suggested to me as an artist to look at by Graham during seminar for themes in contemporary art.
"Imogen Stidworthy’s work explores how language, perception and the act of listening underpin the creation of inter-human relationships and a sense of self, whilst questioning our complex interactions with the world through our use of language." http://www.fvu.co.uk/artists/details/imogen-stidworthy/
(Above) Imogen Stidworthy,I Hate, 2007, Mixed Media installation, Commissioned by Documenta 12, Kassel; Courtesy MuHKA (Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp
Exhibition: Imogen Stidworthy, Arnolfini, Bristol, until April 25
"In some ways the work of Imogen Stidworthy goes beyond the limits of visual art, because her main area of interest is speech.
Accent, slang and speech therapy are all explored in her new show at Arnolfini. It is the first UK survey of the Liverpool-based artist.
But despite her concern with language, Stidworthy translates well. She has built up an international reputation, and one piece in her current show was commissioned by Documenta XII, the serious-minded exhibition in Germany that only comes round every five years.
The result is called I Hate and studies the rehabilitation of a photographer who lost his voice in a cycling accident. Sessions with the therapist are filmed along with his own shots of a major scene of demolition and reconstruction, the Eurostar Terminal at St Pancras prior to November 2007."

Studio practice up date
Today I have taken over my plans and measurements to the workshops to have my wood for my installation piece "Does this make sense" cut and rolled and set into a cylinder. This will be ready to collect next Monday afternoon. so then I just need to do some cutting out on some of the wood discs and sand and paint it up to create a metallic finish and I will be half way home on this piece.

Group meeting for exhibiting and curating
Mondays meeting went well we have shared out all the roles and decided on a possible theme around colour and movement and have also chosen to us the Cadman Gallery as the space is perfect for our ideas and also lets in lots of natural light. we have spoken to one of the level 5! students who's work we all think will work well in our theme and chosen two other that Dom knows and is going to talk to. as the theme is around colour we have decided to only use a few pieces, this is also so if the space does look overly bear then Sarah and Dom have both said they would happily have a piece of there work displayed an they both use a loot of colour in there works. I have suggested a quote by Claude Monet "Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment." "which i think we could use as the exhibition title, Colour - Obsession,Joy & Torment. I mentioned this is our last meeting but will put it forward more clearly in our next meeting.

Aubrey Williams
I'm posting this simply because its been a long time since I've properly looked at the works of Aubrey Williams even tho he is one off my favorite painters which I still to this day find strange as I'm not usually drawn to bright works. and even tho one of my favorite pieces Atlantic Fire wouldn't be described as bright many of his other works that I love are, like Hymn to the sun IV and V.
Mary Kelly- possible inspiration
I've been looking at Mary Kelly as a possible artist for my themes in contemporary art essay but also as possible inspiration. I have looked at her work and used her as inspiration before, but I think she may be a good artist to look at with the work I'm doing know as her work often has autobiographical factors to it. I have also seen the exhibition of her works at the Whitworth gallery in Manchester.

This is another good website to look at for exhibiting and curating module.http://moussemagazine.it/
"SculptureCenter presents “Scene, Hold, Ballast” a two person exhibition with David Maljkovic and Lucy Skaer, artists whose work shares an engagement with sculpture, film, and distinct approaches to exhibition design. “Scene, Hold, Ballast” conceived as a dialog, will feature new works by Maljkovic and Skaer commissioned through SculptureCenter’s Artist in Residence program. The exhibition is guest curated by Fionn Meade."(From http://moussemagazine.it/)
Institut d’Art Contemporain
This is a great website for contemporary art http://www.i-ac.eu/ the current exhibition is,
JOACHIM KOESTER
OF SPIRITS AND EMPTY SPACES
EXHIBITION FROM 10 DECEMBER 2011 TO 19 FEBRUARY 2012
thought this would be a good website for all who are doing the exhibiting and curating to check out .
"The exhibition at the Institute assembles a large set of existing works, most of which were made since 2005, and new works, consisting mainly of films and photographs.
Joachim Koester has designed the exhibition like a pathway in half-light through a maze that fills all the space available. This exhibition is for him a matrix whose components (ideas, characters, subjects and emotions) weave links from one room to another."

Bill Viola - Studio Practice research
www.billviola.com
He is one of the most impressive and talented artists I've come across in a long time. I highly recommend that you get his DVDs out of the library if you are interested in video art and even if your not as they are beautifully made and very moving and emotional.

Exhibiting and curating (1)
After Thursdays intro into exhibiting and curating I feel a bit more confident about the how thing, was happy with the group I've been put in and hopefully we will all work well together I emailed every one to suggest that it might be a good idea if we do a thematic/group show of selected works by other BA students rather then use our own work. my reasoning being that most of my group will be going to Poland and i think we would be able to create a a better exhibition with out the pressure of those going on the trip to get work finished but also it will make it easier for the two of us that isn't going to work on the exhibition while they are away. I have arranged for use to meet up on Monday at 11:30 so hopefully all will agree that this is the best way to go

Lloyd makes images using video, slides and photography. She includes the equipment used to show these still and moving images as part of the work, which consequently inhabits space like sculpture.

film 16 mm noir et blanc, 16 minutes
Vicinato is a film divided into several chapters. It is based on a conversation between friends, between artists. As time goes on, the actors become older, and the directors film a different movie.
