Katharine Dowson

I came across this artist while trawling the internet and just thought she was amazing and different. Her works have also really inspired me to try working with glass.

"Pia Mater means 'Tender Mother' and is the membrane surrounding the spinal column.  The work hung firstly in the stair well of the Hayward Gallery during the show 'Spectacular Bodies the History of Anatomical Art from Leonardo till Now' 2000-2001 and secondly in the Henry Wellcome Building for Neuroecology Newcastle University.  The 16 meter glass spine and brain are illuminated with fiber Optic lights so that the shadows appear on the wall behind. They very gently move."

"I had an MRI scan as part of the research into Dyslexia and all the resulting work 'My Soul' and 'Brain Bricks' are of my life size brain.   'Memory of a Brain Malformation' is a Venus Ulterior Malformation that was successfully lasered out of my cousins brain"
